Inflation is a topic that has no shortage of discussion in the modern world. Consequently, understanding its history and the level of inflation that has actually occurred throughout history is essential. The U.S dollar in particular has been through periods of intense inflation throughout its history.

 

On the most basic level, the U.S dollar has inflated. The dollar of today is worth just six cents in 1920. The reasons and dips and peaks in that process are much more complex  though. Looking back, the Great Depression and WWII saw skyrocketing prices, prices that never been seen before.

 

After, in the 1940’s, the economy started to stabilize. This did little to stop inflation though as by the 1960’s a dollar could no longer buy a gallon of milk, a big milestone in history. The 1970’s saw the economy attempt to stabilize but by the 1980’s inflation reached its all time high of 14.5%.

 

After this, while inflation around the dollar somewhat stagnated, the aggressive rise in college tuition and other consumer prices began, a process that has not yet stopped. From there the value of the dollar continued to diminish and diminish until finally COVID hit. This marked one of the strangest economic times in history for the U.S and the world at large.

 

Looking at 2021, the dollar in particular depreciated even more than other countries. Mexico, Canada, Britain, China, and Australia all retained currency value over America. COVID seemingly hit the U.S economy or at the very least boosted inflation particularly hard. 

 

Looking at 2022 the fate seems to be even more dire. In 2022 so far, inflation has risen at a rate of 9.1%, the highest seen since 1981, the all-time peak. This was not limited to just the dollar either as energy and food prices are also hitting all time highs. 

 

What is most unfortunate is that inflation has no signs of slowing down, in fact the U.S is predicted to see some of the most aggressive rates of both consumer and currency inflation ever. This is only reflected by looking at the market and the things that currently have value. 

 

Gold, for example, is a clear marker of market uncertainty and general economic downturn. And in 2020 the gold investment demand jumped 90% year over year. Gold also saw a return on investment of near 25% in 2020, a rate higher than the stock market itself. Gold is also predicted to continue to skyrocket in prices into 2030, directly reflecting the rates of inflation that are predicted to continue.

 

This is the past, present, and future of the inflated dollar. Starting with the rocky period of the Great Depression, and ending with the similarly rocky period of the COVID pandemic. The U.S’s greatest strength is the history it holds. Understanding how policy has influenced inflation and inflation has influenced the consumer is something that has only grown in depth and scale with time. The citizens of the U.S can only hope it’s applied.

Inspirational Musical Artist Jay Scott Makes a Comeback with His Debut New Album

The music industry has become a haven for artists with inspiring stories that have been turned into captivating songs. Today, the music industry has become a place where artists and musicians with the biggest hearts have the best chance of making it big, and Jay Scott— aka Jaynetox— is unquestionably on that list.

Jaynetox was born on November 18, 1998. He started listening to music when he was very young. His uncle Tony, who played the organ in front of him, inspired him because it was the most beautiful thing he had ever heard. At ten years old, the artist wrote his first song, “Reality.” Unfortunately, Jay’s beloved uncle and mentor died in 2010, which changed everything for him. Since then, the aspiring musician has made a name for himself despite the obstacles he had to go through, including fake friends, family matters, and so on. Fortunately, he has always had a few close friends he can always rely on, such as Princelightskin, W.B.K, and SilentMontage. 

Many years have passed since Jaynetox’s heartbreaking loss, but the budding singer’s journey is far from over. He had also faced other adversities, such as being duped by people who were only interested in his money. Then, when he no longer had anything to offer, the same people turned their backs on him.

In a January 2022 Forbes post, Denise Vu Broady, chief marketing officer for the low-code provider Appian, outlined several communications strategies that, even under the current working conditions, will keep employees motivated and enthusiastic about their organization, and able to see a future at the company.

 

Broady maintains that because employees are not sharing the same physical space with their colleagues—thereby missing those “water cooler moments”—they are so inundated by emails and instant messages that they feel overwhelmed. Communications firm Grammarly has posted communication tips, specifically geared toward a hybrid workplace. While meeting in person to collaborate on a new product introduction might be preferable, some meetings are just as effective remotely. Shorter virtual meetings when just small bites of information are communicated or one-on-one meetings between staff and managers are best suited to a virtual format.

 

Since many meetings aren’t held in the same space, it’s critical to make sure that meeting materials are accessible in hybrid situations. For example, if there is a PowerPoint presentation that is printed for in-person meeting attendees, a digital deck can help remote workers follow along. And while email is an essential part of communication for hybrid teams, using Zoom or Skype or another interactive platform allows teams access to visual and audio cues like facial expressions, body gestures, and intonation.

 

In addition to clear communication between management and work teams, leaders must also make an effort to better communicate with their customers. What is one thing you would change in your industry today if you could? 

 

I would simplify the sourcing process because it’s a lot of work to find new products to sell right now. It’s still a very analog process. You attend trade shows and speak with the manufacturers directly, who then manually take your order. Sometimes you have to wait weeks or months for delivery of the order. Sometimes they sell out of things, but they’re not able to let you know about it up front. 

 

Who has been a role model to you and why?

 

My sister has been a fantastic role model. She’s the one who gave me the idea to start my own company, and she’s been very instrumental in helping me set things up because of her background in business and technology.

 

How do you maintain a work life balance?

 

It’s very difficult. I’ve been a business owner for six years, and I still don’t think I’ve found a proper balance. I’m only now starting to not work as much during the evenings. In the past, I’ve worked 16-hour days five days a week and then 12-hour workdays on the weekend. I’ve been doing that for a long time, but now I want to focus more on taking care of myself.

 

Explain the proudest day of your professional life.

 

Earlier this year, I found out that we paid millions of dollars in commission to our affiliates last year. It made me feel really happy to have such an impact on so many people’s lives and help so many people accomplish their goals and dreams.

 

What has been the hardest obstacle you’ve overcome? 

 

Having to restructure the business. Affiliate marketing and direct selling is a tricky business and being able to overcome a lot of the chaos that goes along with it was a big accomplishment.

 

What is one piece of advice that you have never forgotten?

 

“Things done in haste make waste.” I got that saying from my grandmother years ago, and it’s really stuck with me because it taught me to stop rushing. It taught me to stop wanting to hurry and get something done just to cross it off a to-do list. It’s not about crossing something off, it’s about how effectively the task was executed. I had to start asking myself questions like “How productive are you being while you’re accomplishing the task?” and “Is this done to the best of your ability?” Previously, I would find myself rushing through things and it would come back to haunt me later on. Now, I live by my grandmother’s advice because I was wasting money and time by hurrying through things. I will say that I had to properly train my mind to not feel like I had to rush through stuff just to cross it off a list.

 

What is one piece of advice you would like to leave our readers with?

 

I would tell everyone to start thinking of backup plans in life for your income and finances. There are a lot of uncertainties in the world right now. Start thinking about creating different revenue streams and tucking away a nest egg to protect yourself and your family from any kind of financial crisis that might happen.
