Eda Aguilar, the Purpose-Driven Designer Aiming to Empower Women through Her Bold Moves in the Fashion Industry

Passion and purpose often fuel people’s drive to establish a name in their target industry, and the same could be said about Eda Aguilar, the fempreneur behind the widely acclaimed brand Edalou Paris. With these two forces serving as the impetus behind her all-out approach to success, the arduous process involved in translating her visions into reality proved easier to deal with and the journey more enjoyable.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Eda Aguilar was exposed early to the creative world. Mentored by the likes of Ita Medina, Petra Bravo, Waldo Garcia, Caridad Fernandez, Rafi Flores, Emmanuel J. De Jesus, Marcelino Alcalá, and Pedro Avilés, this multi-faceted personality has always demonstrated an artistic flair and the potential to shine in the field of arts one day. While she would eventually graduate with a degree in business administration from the University of Puerto Rico, earn a Master’s degree from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, and spend fifteen years in the realm of banking and finance, the highly accomplished figure never lost her deeply rooted love for her passions.

Ten years ago, Eda Aguilar moved to The City That Never Sleeps, where her hunger for the arts made her consider the path she was following until then. “I started to ask myself if being on Wall Street for the rest of my life was what I wanted to do,” she recalled. That simple question set things in motion, and today, she stands at the helm of Edalou Paris, a company born from a journey of self-love and a burning passion for design.

Based in Paris, the accessories label was created to meet women at the intersection of quality, functionality, and conscious style. Boasting pieces conceived with multi-functional and versatile elements, this brainchild of Eda Aguilar has managed to appeal to a wide range of women from the get-go. Additionally, it is through this venture that La Coucou, an award-winning limited series handbag, came into being. “It is a product of our work with artisans, experts, and suppliers in the district of Le Marais, the very same partners that provide a high level of quality and creativity to the fashion houses in Paris,” shared Eda Aguilar.

It is undeniable that the launch of La Coucou and the achievements it has racked up—from winning awards to gracing a number of runways in Paris and Puerto Rico—pushed Eda Aguilar toward the limelight. But above anything else, what allowed this talented artist to reach impressive heights is the purpose at the heart of her endeavors.

“I am seeking not only to present a line of accessories inspired by my journey of achieving self-love, but also to inspire, guide, and motivate every woman, so they know that it is never too late to achieve what she most longs for,” she explained.

Eda Aguilar continues to draw inspiration from the three cities that stole her heart: San Juan, New York, and Paris. In the years to come, this widely acknowledged designer is set to make bigger waves on an international scale, bringing to life passion projects that are not only intended to shake up the fashion industry but also inspire women and promote empowerment thru her mantra #rockdancelove.

Cody Jefferson Teaching Leaders How to ‘Embrace the Lion’ in Them

Leading a business or ministry can feel like living in an African Savannah with the hardships and volatilities that fill today’s world. And in the wilderness culture that entrepreneurs and leaders live in, Cody Jefferson teaches them how to embrace the lion in them and dominate in the market despite the trials that might come their way.

Cody is a motivational speaker and entrepreneur who teaches top-level leaders how to thrive despite today’s competitive and challenging realities. A business and leadership coach with a message worth hearing, he created Embrace the Lion, a program that looks to help good men become tremendous and leaders thrive in the marketplace and ministry.

The journey started for Cody after he got tired of witnessing friends and colleagues lose to burnout. “I was losing too many friends in the ministry to suicide,” shares Jefferson. “I was seeing too many good men sacrifice their souls on the altars of their success. So after going through my own personal hell, I searched for a solution outside of the box I’d lived in for my entire life.” Cody Jefferson knows what it’s like to struggle through hardships. Still, after finding the winning formula to thriving, growing, and dominating despite the lack of control and certainty, he now leads thousands of men on the same path as he is to more significant success.

The primary expression of this lofty mission is the Lion:Elite program, a coaching curriculum created for the kingdom-minded entrepreneur, leader, or professional who wants to live their legacy and reach their full potential in business and life. The program is home to many CEOs, startup founders, ministry leaders, and other leadership-level professionals to grow their impact and influence while also developing the rhythms of a healthy work-life balance.

Over the past few years, Cody Jefferson has transformed into one of the speaking and coaching industry’s top keynote speakers. He travels all around the country speaking in various events that have housed anywhere between a few hundred to a few thousand attendees. Today, Cody sits on the top twenty list of leadership and business coaches as he shares an urgent message to people who feel overwhelmed by the demands of the workplace.

On top of Cody’s earthly priority list is his commitment to being a good father. “I am a dad, first and foremost,” the motivational speaker explains. “So one must understand that I approach every day confronting the question of what needs to die in me to become the man I said I’d be: as a leader, as a mentor, as a father.” Cody keeps to a strict regimen, starting his day at 4 AM and keeping a regimen that includes reading, journaling, prayer, working out, and daily planning at the start of every day. He then proceeds to knock the ball out of the park by jumping into calls with clients, zoom meetings, and travel when needed. As he does so, he never fails to enjoy every minute of it.

Committed to helping high-achieving men reach their goals without selling their souls to the world’s messy interpretations of what success should be like, Cody continues to grow his programs and influence more men around the world to live like the king of the jungle at taking charge while also remembering the importance of self-care and rest.

How COVID-19 Powered Gig Economy Gains

In 2020, the gig economy grew 33%.  This level of growth is impressive already, but it’s made more impressive next to the fact that the gig economy grew over 8 times faster than the national economy.  One possible explanation for this rapid uptick is the weakness in formal sectors.  With unemployment figures reaching 14% during the pandemic, 12% of the US workforce picked up gig work for the first time.  A popular pandemic job was food delivery for places such as DoorDash and UberEats.  With so many people staying out of restaurants and other public areas, delivery was seen as a safer alternative.

This explanation may seem compelling, but it does not account for all the gains the gig economy has made in recent years. Since 2015, the gig economy has doubled in size.  Over a billion workers worldwide are considered gig workers.  Not only has the gig economy been growing for a while, but forecasters expect its growth to continue into the post-pandemic era.  4 in 5 US companies want to increase their use of gig workers in the future, and half have already done so.  By 2027, 86.5 million Americans are expected to enter the gig economy for some duration of time.

What does this mean for workers?  While it is true that gig work is not for everyone, there is less to fear about the concept than some people think.  The gig economy is capable of providing a living wage; in the delivery service example from earlier, full-time drivers make almost $50,000 a year.  While not glamorous, that’s far better than most minimum wage jobs.  Moreover, most gig workers work less hours than their traditionally employed counterparts.  58% report less than 30 hours a week at work to sustain their lifestyle.  For those who fear the instability of gigs, consider the following.  If a gig worker loses one client, they still have several clients willing to pay them for work.  If a formal employee loses their full time job, they have lost all their income.  By some accounts, gig work has greater job security than traditional employment.

Besides, not every gig worker drives for Uber.  Gigs can take a variety of forms, from babysitting to home repair to bartending at events.  People with a wide variety of skills and passions can monetize their hobby in the gig economy.  Additionally, gig work has yet to develop as many formal degree requirements as traditional employment.  This makes the gig economy more accessible to those who lack the means to go to college.

COVID-19 may have accelerated the trend towards gig work in the modern economy, but it did not start it.  Conversely, the return to a post-pandemic normal will not end the presence gig work has established for itself in the US economy.  “A lot of really great people are increasingly looking for flexibility in their work, and a lot of them are finding it via the gig economy,” says Brandon Beneschott, co-founder and COO of Toptal.

Bring Office Workplaces into the Future with Hybrid Models

While the concept of remote work did exist prior to the pandemic, it was only available to a small portion of the American workforce.  Yet when stay at home orders became necessary for public health, 95% of office workers transitioned to working remotely at least part of the time.  After an extended test run that has yet to wholly conclude, the results are in: 97% of workers like working from home.

What makes remote work so appealing?  Those surveyed list a variety of benefits.  79% of workers are thrilled with the elimination of their daily commute.  In extreme cases, commute elimination allowed workers to recover several hours of their day.  73% believe remote work allows them to achieve an easier work-life balance.  Work is an important part of a professional’s life, but it must be balanced alongside other commitments.  A notable benefit related to work-life balance is the chance to spend more time with one’s family, something 46% of respondents reported doing.  These benefits are so treasured by workers that a third say they would take a pay cut to keep them.  Meanwhile, nearly a quarter of Americans say they’re prepared to switch jobs soon in pursuit of a more favorable remote policy.

The benefits of remote work aren’t only seen by employees.  Businesses are reaping rewards as well.  For every employee a company allows to work from home 2 or 3 days a week, that company saves $11,000.  These savings are a mixture of decreased overhead spending, reduced cost of employee absence and turnover, and higher productivity levels from remote employees.  Businesses across sectors and industries are embracing the remote revolution in their own ways.

As beloved as remote work is, only 37% of all US jobs can be done entirely at home.  To maximize remote benefits while coping with the reality of what a job demands, businesses are turning towards a hybrid model.  Employees work in the office when necessary and stay at home when the circumstances allow for it.  Allowing this degree of mobility improves worker productivity and encourages good habits.

So what does a hybrid office look like in practice?  The exact ratio of office time to remote time is likely to vary by company.  Some companies may wish to be remote first and only bring employees to a single location when necessary.  Others may take the inverse approach, only approving remote work on a case by case basis.  Some places may only expect their top leadership to come in every day while others may want every employee to work from the office part of the time.  The balance struck between these two modes is less important than ensuring the result meets both employee and company needs.

Beyond division of location, hybrid workplaces give managers a lot of factors to consider. Planning office space must become more intentional when workers share desks throughout the week.  Ensuring inclusion and collaboration between locationally divided employees requires focus and attention.  The future has arrived in all its complexity.

Nature is a Magical Muse – Artist Deborah Bigeleisen Finds Inspiration in the Hues and Patterns in Nature

Throughout the history of art, artists have found a field of inspiration in the gifts of nature. Whether looking above at billowing clouds, peering deep into the bluest seas, or tumbling into the petals of delicate posies, artists have declared nature a most divine muse. “I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers,” noted Claude Monet who also announced his affinity for flowers by pronouncing, “I must have flowers, always, and always.”

Georgia O’Keeffe wanted to give the gift of flowers to the world. “When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around, so they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not.”

Take a moment to gaze at Hiroshige’s bold orange hibiscus, created in 1845 with woodblocks. Behold Gustav Klimt’s field of flowers shimmering in the summer sun painted in 1905. Imagine their passion for celebrating nature in their art.

Deborah Bigeleisen brings her unique artistic style to the genre of floral painting.  Throughout her career, she has created close to 400 paintings with a strong emphasis on roses, gardenias, lisianthus, and lilies in visions from hyper-realism to non-objective.  Sunflowers and orchids have also felt the brush of a Bigeleisen. With a technique rooted in the labor-intensive practices of the Dutch master artists implementing multiple transparent layers to achieve rich saturated darks and illuminated highlights, she captures the essence of her subject and shares that beauty.

The Original White Rose

When Bigeleisen began painting Rembrandt-like portraits of luminous white roses, she had no idea that it would propel her into a world of discovery and the creation of a signature style. “The gallery owner asked me to paint a series of white roses,” says Bigeleisen, recalling the conversation. To everyone’s joy, the paintings sold within ten days. “Deborah gave voice to capturing roses that I had not seen in my thirty years in the art business,” commented her mentor who was an art dealer.   It was suggested that she paint ten more illuminated white roses, then paint thirty more.  The purpose being to establish an identity for her work. And so, her story began. She established an identity for herself that was 100% on point, original, and authentic.”

Following is her painting titled under “© 2007 White Rose 5, oil on canvas, 28” x 24””

Nancys Orchid

Nancy’s Orchid, from her Contemporary Masters series is one of the early hyper-realist paintings that launched Bigeleisen’s career. “Flowers are in my DNA. I am awed by them; they have been the subject of my art since childhood,” says Bigeleisen.

Following is her painting titled under “© 2003 Nancy’s Orchid, oil on canvas, 30” x 24””

A Gardenia Called Snow Leopard

Bigeleisen gives a fresh contemporary view of a gardenia in her painting titled Snow Leopard from her Kaleidoscope series. This work in acrylics weaves the aesthetic beauty of a flower with the tension of geometric abstraction. “The flower keeps us rooted in nature and classical beauty while the geometric plains symbolize the impact that technology and world events have on eroding at our norms,” says Bigeleisen.

Following is her painting titled under “© 2019 Snow Leopard, acrylic on canvas, 36” x 36””

An “Untitled” Dying Trumpet Lily

The inspiration from the curls and undulations of the petals of a dying trumpet lily launched the Multiple Perspectives series of non-objective paintings, created predominantly in neutral tones of either grays or beiges. “The reason that I did not title the paintings in this series, and deliberately used unnatural colors, is that titles and colors are very subjective; I wanted to challenge the viewer’s imagination and emotions as to what they see and feel,” says Bigeleisen.

Following is her painting titled under “© 2010 Untitled No. 20, oil on canvas, 60” x 45”

Looking Deep Inside a Lisianthus

Bigeleisen brings a unique vision to the floral genre to embody a contemporary world. Her signature Magical Realism series of larger-than-life flowers that explode off the canvas take the viewer to depths beyond what the naked eye can see. The subject is no longer simply a flower. It is a dynamic system filled with energy, mystery, and beauty.

Following is her painting titled under “© 2011 Rhythm 8, oil on canvas, 50” x 50””

Magnificent Magnolias

Also from her Magical Realism series, Bigeleisen takes the viewer on an almost voyeuristic journey inside the core of a magnolia. Magnolias symbolize dignity and nobility and are often thought to be perfect symbols of womanly beauty and gentleness. “When I finished painting Creation and its companion painting Genesis that is exactly what they suggested to me, thus the titles of the paintings,” says Bigeleisen, who notes that since magnolias have been around from the beginning of time they are also thought to symbolize longevity and perseverance.

Following is her painting titled under “© 2008 Genesis, oil on canvas, 36” x 29””

Modern Florals

In her latest Dreamscape series, Bigeleisen renews her style of painting Rembrandt-like ‘portraits’ of a single image of a flower which she combines with a fresh fantasy surreal edge. The magnitude of the scale of the flowers interacting with water effects captures the power, the energy, the awe, and the beauty that Bigeleisen sees in nature.

Following is her painting titled under “© 2021 Bridal Veil Falls, acrylic on canvas, 60” x 54””

Deborah Bigeleisen is an award-winning artist whose paintings enhance corporate and private collections worldwide and are represented by galleries across the United States. Her work has been included in numerous museum exhibitions and has been published widely. Bigeleisen paints from her Palm Beach studio sprouting joy and wonders with each brushstroke and new canvas.

Staying Steady in A “Tough Market,” How Toronto’s Heather Hadden Is Making Home Buying A Friendlier Process

There is no question that the housing market is hot, hot, hot right now. This story rings true all over the world, and the Toronto market is no exception. Demand for homes is high, far outweighing supply, and it is a seller’s market, making the process more complicated for homebuyers (especially those experiencing it for the first time). Heather Hadden, of Hadden Homes (Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices), is dedicated to taking the stress out of the home buying process and wants buyers to know buying a home in a tough market does not have to be an unpleasant experience.

Homebuyers always face challenges when it comes to financing, obtaining a down payment, having the right credit score, finding a home, getting an offer accepted, and then hoping the appraisal and inspections all come through so the deal can move forward. In the current market, despite increased desire and drive to purchase a home, there is low inventory for housing, meaning that there is limited choice for homebuyers. Finding the perfect home may take more time than expected, as potential buyers far outnumber the availability of homes for sale.

Currently, buyers are finding themselves jumping through hoops just to get noticed by sellers. Homes are going for well over asking and get multiple offers as soon as they hit the market. Navigating the process can be tricky and at times full of heartache as buyers are finding themselves making offers on homes they have not set foot in, throwing all sorts of incentives toward sellers, hoping to get picked, only to repeat the process for every home they want to bid on. Prices are only increasing, and the landscape is not expected to calm down anytime soon.

“In its 2021 market outlook, TRREB forecasted the average residential price in the GTA will top $1 million this year. Now, the GTA is a big place bordered by Oakville to the west, Oshawa to the east, and Newmarket to the north. When you narrow it down to Toronto proper, the average residential price will be well into seven figures.” Hadden cautions against any kind of bidding war—that only drives the price higher and benefits a seller, “Remember, a home is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.”

Hadden does not want homebuyers to lose hope or feel like finding a home is impossible. Part of her practice is to get to know buyers, develop relationships with them, and fully embrace empathy in her process. She knows what it is like to be in transition, to need to find that safe place to call home, and is determined to make the process friendlier for others. It is possible to buy even in a tough, low inventory market; and Hadden has the confidence, skills, connections, and technology to make it a reality. “Thankfully, interest rates are on the buyer’s side, as the cost of borrowing has never been cheaper. Given a solid down payment, flexibility when it comes to housing type and neighbourhood, and determination, homebuyers can still buy in this market at a price they can afford. Then, with time and growing equity, they too will have a chance to move up the property ladder.”

“I know how hard these transitions have been for me. Whether it was buying a first home, needing to upsize, needing to downsize, retiring parents, I have been there,” Heather says. “Over the past 14 years, my team and I have been through every situation under the sun and are equipped to make this transition as easy as possible for you.”

Consulting a real estate professional like Heather Hadden and her exceptionally talented team is going to give prospective buyers an advantage. Investing in each buyer’s unique circumstances and helping them become a competitive buyer, then getting people into homes are both Hadden’s passion and expertise. From the perspective of both buyer and seller, she can help with all your Toronto real estate needs. Hadden Homes is in the top 0.1% of agents in the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board, and their listings sell in an average of just 11.5 days (about 1 and a half weeks) for 105% of the list price.

Born and raised in Toronto, Hadden is well established in the community, known for her commitment to clients and the proven Hadden Homes Method. With 15 years in the industry, there is no challenge she is not willing to take on, and her people-based approach has changed the real estate experience in Toronto, setting the bar extremely high. Connect with Hadden and her team on the Hadden Homes website and on Instagram, where she regularly shares Toronto real estate tips and information.

David Reiss Dallas Proves Success in Multiple Industries Isn’t Impossible

Have you ever met someone who successfully worked in over 25 industries? Probably not. Most people will work in the same few industries throughout their lives. While some people are okay with that, others would love the opportunity to try something different, but they allow their fears of the unknown to hold them back from doing so. Anyone who’d like to work in multiple sectors while having success should know it can get challenging at times, but it isn’t impossible. David Reiss Dallas is the perfect example of a self-made entrepreneur with experience and notoriety in 25+ industries!

David Reiss Dallas Offers the Encouragement Other Entrepreneurs Need

When reviewing his resume, it’s easy to see that David Reiss Dallas has decades’ worth of experience in dozens of industries while taking on important roles for companies, such as marketing, management, and leadership. “While I was in school earning my bachelor’s degree, I couldn’t decide between psychology and anthropology, so I majored in both. I started thinking about all the things I wanted to do. I didn’t want to set myself up to do one thing for the rest of my life. Instead, I liked the idea of having a diverse portfolio by holding different positions and gaining experience in various industries,” shared Reiss. “It’s the reason I went on to earn two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. (ABD). I wanted to further my education to do more in life. I’ve learned that once you find your passion in life, it’s good to take that passion and use it to gain success in different industries. Of course, you can’t be afraid to take risks.”

Risk-taking has never been a problem for Reiss, who says he’s always up for the challenge. He wants other self-made entrepreneurs to feel the same, encouraging them to take a step in a different direction to try new things, some of which may seem challenging initially. He applies his professional experience and extensive knowledge to The Mastery Group, a professional group tailored to support and encourage entrepreneurs who want to make a name for themselves. “With The Mastery Group, we want to help entrepreneurs see things from new perspectives and get more information on important topics within different industries, including, “Pull Marketing” and the use of psychology to connect with consumers. It’s a safe space for professionals to learn valuable information and network with each other. The goal is to help these business professionals achieve more success,” said Reiss. “Too many entrepreneurs think that sticking to one thing is the best thing for business, but that isn’t always true. I provide professional training to give these individuals the motivation they need to take that leap and have success in as many industries as possible or, at the very least, learn how to apply what works in one industry to their own.”

Known as a best-selling author and serial entrepreneur with experience in 25+ industries under his belt, David Reiss Dallas has a plethora of valuable knowledge to offer others. In addition, he’s not afraid of taking risks and wants to show others that the risks involved in entrepreneurship are worth the reward. Serious entrepreneurs can learn the ropes and get the guidance needed when joining The Mastery Group.
