Sean Glasser is a remarkable entrepreneur who has transformed a modest start into a thriving business empire. Born in Jersey City as the youngest of three brothers, Sean’s journey to success is a testament to hard work, determination, and a relentless pursuit of his entrepreneurial dreams.
From a young age, Sean exhibited an entrepreneurial spirit. In high school, he created a Geometry study guide to help his peers prepare for the SAT, selling them for $12 each. However, it was during his college years that his entrepreneurial journey truly began to take shape.
As a student, Sean earned the coveted Vice-Presidential nomination to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, a prestigious honor bestowed upon only two individuals each year. Later, he transferred to Seton Hall University on a full academic scholarship, majoring in Criminal Justice with aspirations of becoming an FBI agent. However, the tragic events of September 11, 2001, deeply impacted Sean, living just minutes away from the World Trade Center. In response to the crisis, he embarked on a mission to raise funds for the NYPD and FDNY by selling memorial-related apparel on eBay. Little did he know that this experience would ignite his passion for online selling.
After the charity work ended, Sean began exploring opportunities to earn extra income while still in college. He discovered a company selling Tirefly wheel lights and quickly started buying and selling their products on eBay. Sean’s relentless work ethic, attention to detail, and marketing skills soon allowed him to dominate the eBay landscape, all while attending classes during the day.
Upon graduation, Sean approached his college friend, Sage Katakura, with the idea of opening their own print shop. Together, they embarked on a journey into the unknown, establishing BLUETRACK in West New York, New Jersey. Despite having little experience, they devoted 80-100 hour weeks to mastering the intricacies of printing, marketing, and running a business. In the early days, their commitment was unwavering, even when they earned just $100 a week.
Over time, their hard work paid off as BLUETRACK gained the trust of prominent brands, building a loyal customer base of 40,000, including industry giants like Google, Nike, Netflix, Disney, and the NFL. Sean Glasser’s entrepreneurial spirit and Sage Katakura’s partnership turned BLUETRACK into one of the world’s leading sources of stress balls. The company’s success was so remarkable that they eventually acquired the domain stressballs.com.
Today, Sean Glasser serves as the CEO of BLUETRACK, and the company continues to expand its product offerings. They are poised to open a new corporate headquarters in Montclair, New Jersey, marking yet another milestone in their entrepreneurial journey.
Sean Glasser’s story is a testament to the power of determination, resilience, and relentless pursuit of one’s dreams. From a young student with a vision to a successful entrepreneur with a global presence, his journey inspires aspiring business leaders to persevere through life’s challenges and turn their entrepreneurial dreams into reality. Sean Glasser: Certainly. My journey started with a strong entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. In high school, I created a Geometry study guide to help fellow students prepare for the SAT and sold them for $12 each. However, it was during my college years that my true entrepreneurial path took shape. I earned a Vice-Presidential nomination to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and later transferred to Seton Hall University with the goal of becoming an FBI agent. The tragic events of September 11, 2001, spurred me into action, and I began raising funds for the NYPD and FDNY by selling memorial-related apparel on eBay. This experience ignited my passion for online selling and set the stage for my entrepreneurial journey.
How did you transition from selling memorabilia on eBay to starting your own business?
Sean Glasser: After my charity work on eBay, I was looking for ways to earn extra income while still in college. I stumbled upon a company selling Tirefly wheel lights and began buying and selling their products on eBay. Through hard work, attention to detail, and a knack for marketing, I was able to dominate the eBay marketplace. It was during this time that I realized the potential of creating my own business. Upon graduation, I approached my college friend, Sage Katakura, and together, we founded BLUETRACK in West New York, New Jersey. Despite having little experience, we dedicated ourselves to learning the intricacies of printing, marketing, and running a business.
What were some of the early challenges you faced when starting BLUETRACK?
Sean Glasser: The early days of BLUETRACK were undoubtedly challenging. We were working 80-100 hour weeks, often earning just $100 a week. It was a period of immense sacrifice, as we were focused on building our business and gaining the trust of bigger brands. Learning how to print, pitch our products, and navigate the competitive landscape were all part of the journey. But our determination and commitment to our vision kept us going.
BLUETRACK has grown significantly, serving major clients like Google, Nike, Netflix, Disney, and the NFL. What do you attribute to this success?
Sean Glasser: Our success can be attributed to several factors. First and foremost, we prioritize our customers and aim to provide exceptional service. Building trust with our clients has been essential. Additionally, we continually seek opportunities for growth and expansion, diversifying our product offerings to meet market demands. We’ve also focused on efficient operations and staying competitive in the industry.
What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs who are looking to start their own businesses?
Sean Glasser: Research is key. Understand your market, competitors, and potential demand for your offering. Develop a solid plan that addresses critical questions like what sets you apart from competitors and how you plan to scale and grow. Consider your financing options carefully, whether it’s using your own resources or seeking external funding. Additionally, having a competent attorney and accountant on board is crucial for legal and financial matters. Registering your business with the necessary government entities is essential. But above all, remember that selling and making money should be your primary focus initially, and always be open to learning, improving, and engaging with your customers.
What are your future goals for BLUETRACK, and where do you see yourself in the next five years?
Sean Glasser: We’re constantly pushing boundaries and aiming to become a household name in the marketing products industry. We want BLUETRACK to be a shining example of exceptional customer service and innovation. Personally, I hope to see my family continue to grow and pursue further education by obtaining my graduate degree, something I’ve postponed due to the demands of building our business.
Can you share a personal motto or quote that inspires you in your entrepreneurial journey?
Sean Glasser: “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor” by Franklin Roosevelt is a quote that resonates with me. It reminds me that challenges and adversity are a part of the journey to success, and it’s through facing those challenges that we grow and become better entrepreneurs.
What defines you as a person outside of your business pursuits?
Sean Glasser: Outside of my business endeavors, I’m an avid learner and thinker. I have a deep curiosity about the world and a passion for understanding how things work. I constantly ask “why” and strive to find the beauty in life’s complexities.
