The fashion industry is filled with movers, shakers, and innovators driven by success and determined to make every difference possible within their chosen endeavor. In this regard, Maryam Dimson is no different. Driven by her desire to see the fashion industry progress, she has dedicated her talents and expertise to this cause.
Having always had a particular interest in fashion, tourism, hospitality, and lifestyle, Maryam, a 23-year-old entrepreneur from New York City, decided to study Hotel Hospitality and Tourism Management. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Pace University, New York, and she put her skills, knowledge, and talent to good use by founding Gold Coast NYC Apparel.
Gold Coast NYC Apparel is a culture-influenced brand committed to its mission to create an affordable, fashion-forward, and sustainable brand that embraces countries, cultures, and traditions. The brand caters explicitly to trend-conscious people who pay extra attention to owning some of the most up-to-date fashion accessories, albeit at an affordable price. This demographic has been described as always looking for the next best thing, and Gold Coast NYC masterstroke is incorporating cultural attires into their clothing. As expected, this target market wants to have all in their wardrobe.
Gold Coast Apparel NYC is heavily influenced by culture. Explaining how she settled on a name for the brand, Maryam said, “How we came up with the name was that part of our family roots is from Ghana, also known as the ‘Gold Coast,’ hence the first part of our name. We are based out of New York City, and it is a city that showcases the hottest fashion trends and is the melting pot of world culture.”
Maryam said the team at Gold Coast NYC Apparel visits a particular region to collect designs based on the native and cultural patterns. Upon returning to New York, she then uses the pattern and design collected to design new apparel styles. According to her, the brand’s first collection will feature heavily West Africa, specifically Ghana, Nigeria, and Mali.
On her competition, Maryam notes that nobody comes close because of the concept and the core idea behind Gold Coast NYC Apparel. They make African-inspired designs, not like the traditional designs that other designers are constantly recreating. For her, she is continually evolving in her styles and approach to every new design. Simultaneously, she also takes time to re-educate people on the meaning and significance of each design and print. “I am creating trendy clothes like those sold in Fashion Nova, Boohoo, Pretty Little Thing, but adding a cultural touch to it,” she explains.
The brand is set to launch officially in September. Maryam Dimson has created a brand for the future—a brand that is set to redefine the fashion industry for years to come.
